Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY)
As legend has it, a student named Shelly was killed in the school's cafeteria by her jealous boyfriend. Since her death, she has made her presence known in the dorm building where she used to live, Sheahan Hall. She is a harmless presence. She folds clothes, opens and closes doors, plays with the television and produces occasional bumps in the night. On the campus, there is a grotto dedicated to those who died at Marist. Some think she may be linked to some of the strange occurrances that happen at the grotto.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, NY)
In room 304 of Hirschon there have been many strange and disturbing reports made. Book are said to fly off the shelves by themselves. The blinds will roll all the way up and then all the way back down all on their own. Once a week, around one in the morning, scratching noises are heard along the walls. Also, occasionally it sounds as if someone is walking around the room and tapping on the desks when there is clearly no one else around. Sightings of apparitions have also been reported in the door mirror.

Marymount College of Fordham University (Tarrytown, NY)
Marymount College, a women's college, was founded in 1907 by Father Gailhac and Mother Butler. It is reported that these founders still roam the halls of the dorms protecting the girls living there. Before the college was built, Sacky House was located on the property. Evil spirits are said to lurk in Sacky parking lot where Sacky House used to be located. The most haunted dorms are said to be Gailhac Hall and Gerard Hall with reports of invisible bed guests, beds shaking and the constant feeling of being watched.

Concordia College (Bronxville, NY)
It is reported that all four dorms at Concordia College are haunted. The stories aren't elaborate but are very simple and classic. Bohm Hall, one of the two female dorms, is reportedly haunted by a girl who was raped in it many years ago. It is not known if she died in the building as well. The other female dorm, Rippe Hall, is said to be haunted by a little girl who lived in a house that was on the property before the dorm or college was built. Feth Hall, one of two male dorms, is said to be haunted by its namesake, Reverend Doctor Henry Feth. He is one of the more unfriendly spirits on campus. Lastly, Sieker Hall, is said to be haunted by a pre-seminary student who died of pneumonia in the building many years ago.
I have friends at this school who live on campus. Several people have said they see odd lights and hear strange noises at night. One friend even said she saw the little girl who haunts Rippe Hall.

SUNY Brockport (Brockport, NY)
Hartwell Hall on the college's campus is reportedly haunted. Hartwell Hall was the first building on the campus and was originally used as a school for teachers, the Brockport Normal School. Reports have mainly been made by the cleaning staff when they are alone in the building. One staff member reported activity on one of the upper floors claiming that it sounded as if doors were opening and closing and there was laughter and voices in the halls. Another reported being touched on the shoulder while cleaning but when she turned to see who was there with her, she saw no one. When she was cleaning one of the ballet rooms, the same woman slipped and fell backwards off her step ladder. She was caught by someone or something and placed gently on the floor, unharmed. There was of course no one physically there. Another report is that in the basement where the pool is located, people have heard unexplained splashing when no one is around.

City College of New York (New York, NY)
Since the 1920s reports have been made that students and professors have recognized apparitions seen as former students. These apparitions are said t haunt the former political club lounges of Shepherd Hall. In one case, a math tutor noticed that a student's clothes looked somewhat dated for the time period (the mid 1920s) and he inquired how the student was doing financially since at the time the college was still basically free and most of the student body was comprised of working class students. Only later on did the professor wake and realize that the student he had seen had died in World War I in France in 1918.
Apparitions in clothing from the 1960s and 1970s have also been seen.
Another apparition seen in grunge clothing is seen and always seems sad. He is only seen either just before or just after closing hours.

Igoe Hall at Fredonia State College is reportedly haunted by a former student named Jimmy Igoe. Jimmy was killed while on a fishing trip at Lake Erie. His spirit is said to haunt his former school. He haunts the halls of Igoe Hall slamming doors, changing channels on TV, turning lights on and off, playing with water in the bathrooms and messing around with the elevators. Surprisingly enough, if you ask him to stop messing with everything he will.

Fordham University (Bronx, NY)
There are many many reports of sighting and smells on the Fordham campus. The college was built on the old Rose Hill Manor and an old hospital that was demolished in the 1830s. Because of where it was built there are still a lot of old underground tunnels that connect the buildings.
In the Administration building the smell of cigar smoke is noticed in the hallways.
In the Collins Auditorium, students and faculty have reported seeing a man walking on the balcony above the stage. Also, actors using the auditorium have heard whispers and felt cold sensations on numerous occasions.
When the land was still a hospital, what is now Finlay Hall was used as the medical building. Students have reportedly been awoken feeling as if there were hand on their throat choking them.
In Hughes Hall, a young boy has been seen wandering late at night and doors that are seemingly closed and locked mysteriously swing open.
It seems as if something has been reported in every area of Keating Hall. The building was reportedly built over what was once the tunnel for the morgue. A security guard was taking his break in the basement one evening when all the doors slammed shut on their own and the chains began to shake and rattle. Someone reported seeing a chair fly down the stairs of the auditorium when no one else was there. On the first floor there is an area set up with old historic chairs and other items. It is a lounge for students to relax in between classes but very few students actually use it because whenever they do they feel as if someone is watching them. Shadows have been seen and there are mysterious cold spots even in the summer. It is said that the spirits of the Jesuits who have passed are there. On the third floor, there are reports of being touched on the shoulder and of seeing an apparition form in a blue room.
In O'Hare Hall, a construction worker that was killed while working is said to haunt the area where he worked. There has been banging on the wall as if someone was still doing work.
Martyr's Court, which is a very large dormitory on campus is home to several ghosts. A young blonde haired girl has been seeing standing behind the curtain in the shower staring straight ahead. A man has been seen walking by rooms toward a wall at the end of the hall. Of course when students went to investigate, no one was there. Some students have also reported hearing children's laughter in the walls of their apartments.

SUNY Cortland (Cortland, NY)
SUNY Cortland has several reportedly haunted sites on its campus. On the window sill of room 716 in the Clark dorm building, the spirit of a football player is seen. He is still wearing his football uniform and seems to be bleeding from a gash above his eyebrow.
Brockway Hall, a dining facility on the campus, is another haunted site. Early one morning when one of the cooks was making coffee an old man was seen standing at the top of the stairs. The cook asked if he needed any assistance but the man just turned without saying a word and disappeared. upon investigation, no man was found anywhere near the dining hall.
In the early eighties a student living in Cheney Hall was pushed out the fourth floor window by her boyfriend and was killed. A mural was created in her honor. Students living on the fourth floor who view that mural are said to feel very uneasy, as if someone is watching them. Students also report seeing a misty apparition of a female with outstretched arms that disappears as soon as it is given a second glance.
There are no reports as to why, but there are also claims that Degroat Hall is haunted. It could be because there is a sort of tunnel that leads from Degroat Hall to Brockway Hall where the man was seen by the cook.

SUNY Purchase (Purchase, NY)
So I thought I would do my first real blog post focusing on my own school, SUNY Purchase. There have been rumors of various places on campus being haunted. The first and most obvious haunted site is the cemetery. It is a very small cemetery located right next to the Stood. The cemetery contains the remains of Colonel Thomas Thomas, the original land owner and Revolutionary War hero, his family and his servants. There are only a few, very old and damaged headstones left in the cemetery. Over the years students have reported hearing strange noises and feeling an odd presence in the buildings surrounding the cemetery.
Another haunted site on campus is the house located across the street from Starbucks right next to the day care center. It is reported that an old man hung himself either in the attic or in the basement many years ago and his spirit still remains in the house and can be seen in the windows from time to time.
The old Elephant Tree is also reported haunted. While students sit under the tree reading, studying or just relaxing they claim that the branches and leaves sway even when there is no wind. It is said that someone was hung from the tree; either a young girl took her life by hanging herself from the tree or it may have been used to hang slaves.
The water tower behind the Farside dorms is also said to be haunted. The rumor is that a young boy somehow died in the water years ago.
So, those are the rumors surrounding the haunting of SUNY Purchase.

Heylo!
Hey!
So every week I'm going to be blogging about one or two different colleges located in New York that are reportedly haunted. Surprisingly enough, there seem to be many colleges just in this state that are haunted. I'm going to be talking about some of the colleges and what has supposedly been seen and/or heard, and in some cases even smelled, on the campuses.
I hope you all enjoy!
